BIA Presentation: Intelligence Based Techniques to Help Manage Risk

Stoneman Classroom

Founded on the principle that intelligence-based techniques could be powerfully applied to the private sector, Business Intelligence Advisors (BIA) provides clients with an edge in collecting and evaluating information critical to their success - whether that means making a sound investment decision, asking the right question of clients or vendors, or recognizing a problem not yet apparent to others.

BIA was recently featured on the June 25, 2006 cover of Barron's "Is Your CEO Lying? In the post Enron era, big investors are more skeptical that ever about companies' credibility. How a little know firm helps uncover deception." BIA received its initial round of funding from Arcadia Partners (Liam Donohue Tu'95) and counts five Tuck graduates among its fifty employees.

When is a Close-Knit Team Too Close? Romantic and Family Ties in Startup Teams

Deal or No Deal? Deciding When to Sell a Startup

Barclay Classroom
Entrepreneurs face many difficult decisions, but one they all hope to confront is deciding whether to accept (or solicit) an offer to be acquired. The choice necessarily involves challenging considerations of the startup's market opportunity and competitive situation, the attractiveness of an acquisition's terms, the viability of remaining independent, and the personal goals and risk tolerances of the entrepreneur and his or her team. Session will focus on the example of @Last Software, a developer of Sketchup software for 3-D design that was acquired earlier this year by Google.

Session Leaders
Mark Sawyer Entrepreneur in Residence, Borealis Ventures; former CEO, @Last Software
Jesse Devitte Co-Founder and Managing Director, Borealis Ventures; Director, @Last Software
